logistics
Sessions typically last between 60-90 minutes.
We meet 2 or 4 times a month, depending on your circumstances and how quickly you want to progress.
Between our coaching sessions, I am available to you via text and email during business hours. I become part of your inner circle of trusted advisors, there when you need me.
In addition to our coaching sessions, I also budget 1-3 hours per week of offline, asynchronous work such as responding to your journals, sending you articles, synthesizing various assignments, reviewing relevant work deliverables, etc.
Sessions may be rescheduled up to 24 hours in advance with no penalty. Life happens. Within 24 hours, that session is forfeit.
I work with a maximum of 8 long-term clients at a time. I set this limit back in 2022 so that each person is able to have a depth and intensity of my presence not available when I was coaching 30+ people simultaneously. One of the best compliments I've ever received is, "Leland, I feel like I'm your only client." This is what I strive for with each person.
Some important aspects and tools when working together:
Discovery Phase. At the beginning of the engagement, I'll send you my discover worksheet which you can think of as an intake form. It provides an opportunity for self-reflection looking back at your past, where you are now, and where you think you want to go together. I suggest budgeting 2-3 hours to complete this. We then have a 90-minute "Design & Discovery Session" where we discuss how we'll initially work together and discuss your responses as input into the context and content of our work.
Inner Scorecard. One of the tools that my clients find valuable is creating a scorecard with YOUR definition of what success looks like. Typically, this includes both professional and personal aspects, is centered around values, and is tracked on a weekly basis. Both the process of designing this scorecard and practice of regularly self-scoring offer a level of introspection, clarity, and accountability that catalyze transformation.
Pre-Session Check-ins. Prior to our sessions, I will send you a pre-session check-in with several questions with the intent to make the most of our time together, such as "What would you most like to focus on tomorrow?" and "Where would you like to be at the end of our session?" I've found that this helps you to bring a focused topic or theme to our conversations.
Post-Session Reflections. After our live calls, I typically send a worksheet to have you reflect on our conversation and to observe any new thoughts or behaviors that have come up since we talked. Often, the insights come after our conversation when you're living your life.
